This day was an emotional one. Many people came from many places to honor the veterans. President Hollande from France and President Obama both spoke. We had another ceremony at the farm - the place where Papa's unit built an airstrip. There were 2 French citizens there who were alive 70 years ago. One has become a close friend of Nana and Papa and the other man was a new face. He said he was 8 years old at D-Day and remembers everything. The occupation, the shortage of food, the fear make the liberation all the more sweet. The day is a happy one similar to how we celebrate our Independence Day. It was heavy for this first-time visitor, but a joyful day spent with family, new and old friends and a gratefulness for freedom.
